Jen the Hen: A Flip-The-Page Rhyming Book (Flip-The-Page Rhyming Book)
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group Juv (June, 1985)
Authors: Colin Hawkins, Jaqui Hawkins, and Jacqui Hawkins
Average review score:

Great beginning to read book!
I'm a Pre-K teacher and this series is by the far the best I have seen helping children to begin to learn to read. There is one word per page that all end with "en" for the children to sound out. When you flip the page there is a new letter in front of the "en". There is a sentence or two using that word in it on the page for a grown up to read. It is a delightful book as is the entire rhyming series. Just ask my preschool class!

Letters, Journals and Writings of Benjamin Hawkins, Volume 2

An Advocate for Indians in the Southeast
Anyone interested in detailed and factual information about the consideration and treatment of Indians in the southeast, will find this 2 volume publication to be fascinating and satisfying!

George Washington appointed Benjamin Hawkins as the Agent for all
the Indians south of the Ohio River.(Today we would say Ambassador, for Hawkins represented the United States to the Cherokees, the Creeks, the Choctaws, and the Chickasaws.) His selection could not have been better. Hawkins who had been Washington's interpretor during the Revolutionary War was well educated, a prolific correspondent, a man of high morals, and absolutely dedicated to the welfare and civilization of the Indians.

He served from 1795 until his death in 1816. During this time, he was responsible from "drawing the line" between Spain (Florida) and the United States, between Tennessee and the Cherokees, and between Georgia and the Cherokees and the Creeks.

He became a "beloved chief" of the 4 nations, never having a set
residence, but always moving and living with Indians or at Army Posts.

By 1795, game was not sufficient to feed the Indians. Hawkins recognized this and worked ceaselessly to persuade and enable the Indians to farm and to raise cattle and hogs. He provided
all the needed implements such as hoes, ploughs, axes, cards, and
spinning wheels, and provided training in the use of them. Blacksmths were assigned to various Indian towns.

Hawkins offerred his resignation in 1812, agreeing to stay on until a successor was named. No successor was named.

This is not a "quick read", but reading to be enjoyed over a long period of time. I took 3 years to read it, enjoyed every bit of it, and always reluctantly ended a reading session, commenting to myself, "This is really an interesting book".

Although used bookselling is different in fundamental ways than selling new books, the Manual on Bookselling provides information that anyone considering owning a bookstore must consider. Average review score:

God's Healing Power

I had to set this book aside for a moment, only to catch my breath as it brought back loving memories. As a parent who has witnessed the trials, triumphs and miracles of his child who had also been touched with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, (HLHS) "Miracle of the Heart" by Shanna Hawkins Pennington details HLHS and its deadly effects in this mother's story filled with joy, pain, love, sympathy and God's healing power.

This book acts out one of God's true miracles when He lays His hand over baby Skyler's heart in the midst of numerous prayers that ask for His healing and support during times of hardship between the child's parents, Shanna and Michael, and their family.

As a good resource for parents who may have a child diagnosed with HLHS, "Miracle of the Heart" contains the information they may be searching for that clarifies the disease in an easy-to-understand way.

For parents Shanna and Michael, their prayers never cease. Experiencing such devastation, yet experiencing such passion together, they remain strong and supportive of each other during the emotional roller coaster ride and continue to embrace their love for Skyler together with their love with God.

"Miracle of the Heart" is truly a remarkable account of how one family struggles to overcome the obstacles in life and how God guides them along the way. This book is a page turner from the beginning.
